Sign making for 40 years!
So, this year we celebrated 40 years in the sign making industry. From 'back in the day' when Eddie used to screen print in the attic and hand paint signs in the garden to the modern technology of today. Looking back through the archives it's crazy how much things have changed. Posters used to be hand squeegeed one by one using paint and today they come off the printer in bulk. Shop signs were hand painted in the garden or shed using a stencil (or even freehand!), pots of paint and brushes. Now they are designed on a specialist program and digitally printed. Although we do still get to do the occasional traditional style project.
With Eddie running the business since 1978, it has become a real family affair over the years. Harry joined his dad in the business straight from school (although he had been helping out long before that!). Harry has now taken on the lead roll in the business, but Eddie is still very much here...we haven't managed to convince him to retire yet! With Elsa (Harry's sister) joining the business in 2013 and even Eddie's wife Kath spent a few years helping out! Over the years we have taken on several local apprentices and had a few office dogs!
We started out based in the home attic, with the shed and garden as an extension. Since then we have had workshops in Saltburn, Marske, Redcar and Stokesley! We are now based back in Redcar on Kirkleatham Business Park in our best workshop to date! Here's looking forward to the next 40 years in the ever changing sign making industry!
